Dr. Mário Fernando Prieto Peres is a specialized neurologist, recognized for his studies in the areas of headache, migraine and melatonin. He works as a senior neurologist and researcher at Albert Einstein Hospital, in addition to being the Coordinator and founder of the São Paulo Headache Center. Dr. Mário Peres made original contributions to the understanding of the neurological basis of headaches. He described syndromes in this area, such as hemicrania continua with aura, tension headache with aura and cephalalgiaphobia. He also participated in the description of other syndromes, such as hemiplegic cluster headache and the modular theory of headaches. In the treatment area, he reintroduced nerve block treatment for cluster headaches and demonstrated that melatonin can be used in the treatment of migraines.
